Moratorium on Development

 March 22, 2022

By  admin

Stamford residents are seeking a moratorium on medium to higher density apartment building developments in the CD-Districts, these are the office parks on Long Ridge Rd and High Ridge Rd. Residents are recommending lower density developments to match the surrounding neighborhoods, and opportunities for affordable housing for purchase.

Over the past decade we have seen 70 new buildings with approximately 12,000 apartment units built in the city. This has contributed to a decline in the quality of life in Stamford:

  • Higher taxes
  • Lower services
  • Increased density
  • Shortage of affordable housing for purchase
  • Near capacity enrollment in SPS – Increased traffic and congestion
  • Less green and open spaces
  • Increase in C02 emissions
  • Public Safety concerns –
  • Stress on natural resources

The residents would like to have time to better understanding from our mayor and city officials on how additional development in our city will benefit the residents, our environment and infrastructure.
